- Try to incorporate your personal background into your project. For instance, if your family has a background in farming, what are the crops native to Jeju? Or if you have tinnitus, what are the soundscapes of Jeju? Think about how your personal background can provide you insight into a topic / place where you are an outsider.

- 1:1 Meetings (sign up in the class doc)
Assignment
- P1 – Souvenir Step 7 – "final" Prototype
- If we consider design as “the art and science of making mass produced goods” as a starting point, how do we translate our personal (and perhaps impractical) goods into something replicable? This can be through physical manufacturing, digital duplication, and/or a conceptual production. Refine your prototype into something that can be made at an industrial scale. Then bring in “3” copies of your souvenir, along with your diagram, to class to discuss.
- This will be the final crit for this project, but you will likely want to revise your work after we visit Jeju, so it may be good to think of it as a "final" protoype.
-
9Sharing05/02
-
Activities
- Review P1 – Souvenir "final" Prototype – we'll share our souvenirs and conceptual map, and discuss their evolution and final form and how we may prepare to use and reevaluate them with our trip to Jeju
Assignment
- Create documentation of your souvenir to share with Yo-E. This should include: A succinct description of your souvenir, photos of the final object and/or digital files.
- Consider what the ideal conditions to share/receive, and "use" your souvenir? For instance, is it best to receive only as a gift? While wearing certain clothing? In a specific season? Is it only useful in a certain geographic/spatial configuration? Write a short description of your preferences and be prepared to share next class (visuals are optional)
